About

It’s easy to love Food Trucks; they’re convenient and offer more interesting (and affordable) gastronomic experiences than your average local chain restaurant. Yet, finding them in the noise of food apps out there can sometimes be a challenge. I was tasked with designing a better solution for a concept to not only help users find local vendors in their area, but add more value to the convenience of food truck dining by giving users the option to quickly order and pay via their iPhone.

Industry

Food & Beverage

We wanted the identity to evoke a memorable sense of fun and playfulness. Most food trucks have a unique personality in their own brand whether through clever puns (Hamborghini, Chairman Bao, Grillenium Falcon) or bold names. Fun is also synonymous with the inventive options, unexpected flavor combinations, and delicious finger food that food trucks offer.

Developing Yumshark's interactions and UX through research, user personas, sketching, and wireframes. In other words, planning out how a customer would locate, browse and order from nearby food trucks quickly and delightfully.

A selection of screen mockups for the iOS version of Yumshark. Imagery was utilized to help users identify cuisine types quickly and allow for vendors to showcase signature dishes. I also wanted to utilize the new Apple Pay technology to experiment with how this could be integrated into the app.

Role

My role was to bring the app design from concept to prototype that could enter into development. This included a round of deep competitive analysis and user research to figure out how to differentiate Yumshark while meeting user needs, creating the brand identity from scratch (logo, color, typography, micro-copy), and testing the UX with real users.
