About

Two page spread for Aircraft Owners and Pilots (AOPA) Flight Training Magazine. Infographic illustration depicts technique for power-on stalls, a required maneuver for obtaining a private pilot's license. Art I produce for AOPA is used in both print and web articles.

My client typically provides a comp and copy for each article. Often I am provided with an article which I interpret and then suggest possible art approaches.

Process: Early concept for the art. After discussion, the art director and I opted another approach.

Process: Screenshot of 3D models used in second approach to the art. This provides flexibility in positioning and scale early in the process.

Process: Getting closer to the final layout. I experimented with an alternate layout to accommodate copy in the layout more effectively.

Final art is a step-by-step process diagram designed to help pilots understand the maneuver in detail.

Role

I am a 500 hour private pilot, experience which I bring to bear on monthly illustrations for AOPA's Flight Training and Pilot Magazines. I provide illustrations backed by my experience as a pilot, and art direction assistance based on my National Geographic art direction background. Having worked with AOPA for 8 years, I can produce art very rapidly.
