I started the process of redesigning the Ballance website by analysing the existing site to ascertain the page layouts in use. I then reduced this down to the minimum possible number to simplify the development process and ensure consistency in the user experience. The template reference number was then recorded for use in the next stage - IA documentation.
I designed an information architecture document for the client that helped rationalise their offering in a coherent and logical way. The document served as a constant reminder of the priority defined for each page of the website (and each template a given page referred to). It also enabled us to keep the project objectives top of mind throughout the process.
Following on from the UX phase, I created full visual UI designs for all of the principal screens and components. These were inserted into the functional specifications I created in collaboration with the Business Analyst on my team.
The final product allowed the client to completely manage their content and marketing, using the Sitecore CMS, making for a dynamic and engaging web presence that was well received by their audience. Overall, Ballance achieved a 37% lift in website traffic following the redesign.
Role
I was integral to the redesign of their main online presence, leading the process from information architecture and functional specifications through to wireframing, digital design and overseeing the HTML5 / CSS3 / JavaScript output.
