About

— Introduction
The ANWB is the largest travelers’ association in the Netherlands and introduced the ANWB Onderweg app back in 2012. With the app users can, among other things, get the fastest route to their destination, find parking spots and gas stations and get notifications when there is a traffic jam on their route.
— The challenge
5 years after its release, the app was still far from perfect and received mainly negative reviews. The goal was, however, to make the app the number 1 app for motorists in the Netherlands.

Industry

Transportation

An improved homepage: more focus, clearer structure and bigger tap areas.

Navigate through the app more easily: no more need to return to the homepage.

New feature: driving modus - the main focus should be on the driving, not on the app.

Old structure of the app: with blue being components that could potentially be merged, and red being components that could be removed due to the mergers.

Proposal for new structure: less sections and more clarity.

Role

I conducted UX research to find out on what points the app could be improved and came up with suggestions to make the app better. Proposals included restructuring the app, adding a toolbar (users had to go back to the homescreen to use the menu) and adding a driving modus with access to all functionalities.
