About

List Challenges is a bucket list website that allows users to create their own lists, with major categories such as travel, movies, food, books, plus more. Beginning as a Facebook App approximately 5 years ago, it garnered instant success, a large following, millions of users, and had content that went viral - skyrocketing their user base. List Challenges continues to see impressive daily traffic but is no longer reaping the rewards of Facebook traffic due to the continuous updates of the algorithm that has negatively affected all FB business accounts. So, List Challenges needed new traffic sources, new audiences, and new social media accounts. Plus a desperate, yet simple update to their brand and website.

In these before and after screenshots of the homepage, you can see a brighter first impression. In the details: the new design is easier on the eyes, reducing unnecessary icons, pulling all items in the header bar into one row, and making one, big, bold call to action at the top.

Here, the outdated logo is brought into the modern era, with a flat, 2D icon, a cheerier blue brand color, and a modern sans font.

LC relies on user-generated content (people making lists), so this page is one of the most important features of the website. We did a simple update to modernize the look and feel. Note: because the website has long-time fanatic users it was important not to change the user experience much, if at all, to refrain from ostracizing their most important users.

Without a menu on the original website, all settings and navigation links were scattered around the header bar - creating a messy, confusing user experience. Adding a simple menu streamlines the experience, signaling to the user where to find important website links. We built a universal menu that many other websites and apps use for a seamless experience.

Role

The objective was to drive new audiences to the site, so we wanted them to land on a fresh, modern user interface. I was tasked with updating the List Challenges logo and branding, the feel and user interactivity of the website, and establishing new social media accounts like Pinterest and Youtube. (See before and after screenshots of the website below).
